The Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions are experiencing rapid growth which has led to a surge in the IT sector. Boasting some of New Zealand’s most beautiful places to live, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region is perfect for IT professionals to grow their career while enjoying a great lifestyle.
IT professionals living in Waikato & BOP have a bright future
The average pay for permanent employees is increasing across Hamilton and Bay of Plenty, with July 2019 data showing a median base salary of $85,000. The IT sector has seen substantial development in the BOP and Waikato, due to a number of factors. Hamilton and Tauranga are going through commercial centre development with offices built for businesses and as shared work spaces for remote workers.
Living costs in Auckland have pushed Kiwis down into places like Mt Maunganui, Tauranga and Hamilton. While a good number of people commute up to Auckland, IT jobs are on the increase in these areas, too. Tauranga’s large CBD $250m development is indicative of the region’s strong commercial growth – new jobs are businesses are part of this.
It’s not just Tauranga undergoing CBD transformation though. Hamilton too is looking to transform its centre to cater for a growing population and business demand.
Waikato & Bay of Plenty employers are hiring IT staff for a number of reasons, the most common being a need to resource new IT projects in the area. This should be encouraging for IT professionals living in, or considering a move to this part of the country.
The main skills needed in places Tauranga and Hamilton include:
- Business Analysis
- Software Development
- Business Intelligence
- Project Management
But these aren’t the only skills needed – there are jobs available in pretty much all areas of IT.
