Are you looking for a team that shares your passion for technology while making a difference?
Does bringing about social good for the world through digital thinking and technology excite you? If yes, then read on to find out more:
My client is a fast-growing digital studio that empowers businesses through clever web solutions. They have a passion for designing and building bespoke online platforms that bring about social good for the world. Some of their projects include working on large scale superannuation systems, drone software to help plant more trees and helping people save for retirement.
You are someone that truly loves tech, loves code, and knows backend technologies like the back of your hand. You tend to get lost in discussions about design principles and patterns and enjoy sharing and imparting your knowledge to others. Above all you have passion for making a difference with your engineering talent.
This is not your average Tech Lead Role- An expertise in Solution Architecture is a given and an enthusiasm for DevOps and infrastructure comes naturally. You will be working on a variety of projects whilst offering support and mentorship to your counterparts. You will work alongside exceptional team of strategists to develop intelligent, creative solutions. It’s important that you are capable of mentoring and sharing your knowledge- soft skills are key for this role. You will enjoy working in a collaborative environment- bouncing off ideas and receiving and giving feedback. Being the critical thinker/problem solver that you are- you will not hesitate to offer suggestions if there’s a better approach.
What your average day would look like:

  • Working with friendly, engaged engineers and designers to architect our projects
  • Understanding clients’ use cases and helping define solutions that deliver business value
  • Writing some PHP (Laravel) or Node.js and TypeScript (Vue.js) to help the team move faster
  • Sharing your knowledge with the team and mentoring our engineers
  • Learning about all layers of the stack exposed to users through the web: fault-tolerant distributed systems & databases that support virtual machines, virtual storage devices, & virtual networks
  • Participating in our constructive code-review process, and supportive culture of identifying and fixing bugs
  • Organising regular demos and code sharing sessions with the team
  • Occasionally participating in workshops with our clients and contributing to proposals

You will excel in this role if you:

  • Approach development with rigor and a product mindset
  • Use libraries judiciously and avoid architecture antipatterns
  • Know Laravel or Node.js and Vue.js
  • Believe in fully documenting your ideas
  • Enjoy reading the documentation produced by others
  • Get excited about a wide range of technical topics and dig deep into them
  • Don’t mind co-workers getting really excited about technical concepts
  • Ideally have some experience or interest in cloud infrastructure (GCP and AWS) and DevOps, experience is not essential – interest goes a long way

You will be working with a team of 15 dedicated people consisting of strategists, designers, and developers. Many people have been with the company for more than five years.
Being strong advocates for continuous learning you will be offered various opportunities for additional training and cross-discipline upskilling. There is a wide array of work on offer– you can grow wherever your interests take you.
To provide an improved work/life balance, a hybrid work model is on offer wherein you will be working from the head office in Auckland CBD 3 days a week and 2 days from home. Additional perks on offer- Standing desks, Fitbits, Shakti Mats, Headspace subscriptions and a fruit bowl. Also, coffee, chocolate biscuits and a fridge stocked with energy drinks and beer.
